RaceFit Athlete Sam Collins scored a massive victory in the final round of the South Island Endurance Series in Timaru yesterday afternoon. This victory cemented Collins as the series champion after sweeping all three wins, the previous rounds took place at Ruapuna Speedway, Christchurch and Teretonga Park Raceway, Invercargill.

This isn’t the first time Collins Motorsport has tasted success, they won the North Island Series earlier this year before taking on and dominating the South Island equivalent. Each round consisted of several practices, qualifying runs and a 1hr endurance feature race. Collins Motorsport was strong across all areas and had their Gen II Marc Mustang on rails throughout the series.

Endurance races can serve tricky for even the best of drivers, having to stay alert and hit their marks in the closing stages of the race as the body and mind start to fatigue. Increasing a driver's level of strength and physical fitness means they will be working at a lower intensity while operating their respective machinery, resulting in less fatigue and being able to stay sharper for longer throughout extended runs such as endurance races. Sam approached us here at RaceFit to help him with his physical preparation. Here’s what he had to say after winning the championship in Timaru yesterday:

“I felt really strong in the car. The training and guidance from the RaceFit team have helped me perform at a higher level and be able to perform in endurance races with relative ease. My team have given me a great car all year, and my fitness has never been this strong. It all adds up to another series win and I couldn’t be happier to be able to secure another title for my sponsors and team”

It has been a pleasure working with Sam and seeing the success that has come from his hard work. Now we are working hard to prepare Sam for the 2022 New Zealand Endurance Championship which will bring in the front runners from both the South Island and North Island championships to be contested over a ‘winner takes all' round at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell in two weeks.

Sam is due to be the favourite coming into the NZ Title and we have no doubt he will be in career-best shape to get the job done! #RaceFitWins
